David Fersch was born on a grain and cattle farm in Central Saskatchewan in 1963. At age 13, David began welding for a group of farmers that became known as Wheatheart Industries, manufacturers of bin sweeps, augers and specialized farm equipment. In the winter months, throughout his late teens and early twenties, David travelled throughout the US with a custom harvest crew.
David moved to the Sunset House area in 1993 and farmed there for nearly 30 years. When he first arrived in the Sunset House area, David began working for local area farmers and eventually Buchanan Lumber (now West Fraser Mills) in High Prairie, Alberta. Although he has spent nearly 40 years of his life welding and machining, farming remained his true passion!
In 2018, Sunset Custom Harvesters was founded and is owned and operated by David and his wife and partner Linda Fersch. The company now operates from their property a few minutes north of Grande Prairie, AB.
We operate a fleet of New Holland(CX8080, CR 8.90) combines, pick-ups and 36′ straight-cut headers and a 1500-bushel Brent Grain Cart & Challenger Tractor. Our equipment is well maintained and ready to work!
Farmers know there is generally a small window of opportunity to get the crop off. Adding more equipment and man power can make all the difference. Let our experienced custom crew help you get the job done!
